Doomfall gives black a modal answer to two of its hardest problems — indestructible creatures and cards in hand — for three mana at sorcery speed. The flexibility is real, but sorcery speed keeps it out of the top tier of black removal.

In Commander, Doomfall earns its slot as a hedge against the things black can't cleanly answer otherwise — indestructible threats like Blightsteel Colossus and Gods, or a hand you need to strip before a combo player goes off. Competitive black decks in Legacy and Vintage have faster, cheaper options, so Doomfall doesn't see play there. Modern and Pioneer follow the same logic — three-mana sorceries compete against Thoughtseize and Fatal Push, and Doomfall loses that race. It's a Commander card through and through, where the modal flexibility and the ability to exile are worth the tempo cost.

Price Context
Current price
$0.12 bulk tier
At $0.12, Doomfall is pure bulk — no barrier to picking up a copy. Price movement is unlikely given consistent reprinting and narrow competitive demand, but at this tier you're not buying it for value; you're buying it because it fills a real gap in your black decks for nothing.
