Donatello's Technique

In Commander, Donatello's Technique earns its slot in any deck that wants to cheat mana costs on high-value permanents — the singleton format means you're never drawing multiples dead, and the multiplayer table means the immediate board impact is worth more than a slow setup piece. In competitive 1v1 formats like Legacy and Vintage, the card has to justify itself against a faster clock, and it mostly does so only in dedicated combo shells where the target is game-ending. Modern and Pioneer give it a narrower window — it's playable but competes with efficient curve threats that just cast the threat fairly. Standard is where the power ceiling is most visible, since the card pool is shallow enough that a cheat effect at this rate stands out. Pauper doesn't allow it, which is likely correct given how warping free-cheat effects can be at common.
