Diviner Spirit drops a 2/4 flier and lets an opponent draw cards equal to its power — in exchange, you draw that many too. The symmetry clause kills it: handing an opponent four cards to draw four yourself is not a deal Commander wants to make.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Diviner Spirit is legal in Commander, Legacy, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, but sees essentially no competitive play in any of them. In Commander, the card-draw payoff requires combat damage to a single opponent, meaning three players at the table never see the effect — and the one who does gets to draw just as many cards as you. Legacy and Vintage have access to draw spells so far above this power band that Diviner Spirit doesn't register. Oathbreaker is the only context where a 2/4 flying body with attached card draw might squeeze into a very casual list, but even there the symmetry clause is a liability.

Current price
$0.35 bulk tier
At $0.35, Diviner Spirit sits firmly in bulk territory, which accurately reflects its playability ceiling. Don't expect the price to move — there's no competitive shell waiting to unlock it.
