Divine Verdict kills any attacking or blocking creature — no protection clause, no size limit — for four mana at instant speed. The conditional is the problem: it does nothing on an empty board or when the threat never swings.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Divine Verdict competes against a deep bench of unconditional removal, and four mana for a situational kill spell is a hard sell when Swords to Plowshares and Path to Exile exist in the same color. Pauper is where Divine Verdict sees its most legitimate play — the card pool is shallow enough that the combat restriction matters less, and instant-speed removal at common is genuinely scarce. In Legacy, Modern, and Pioneer, it's outclassed on rate and sits firmly in unplayed territory. Oathbreaker shares Commander's problem: the format moves fast enough that waiting for an attack step to answer a threat is often too late.

Price Context
Current price
$0.08 bulk tier
At $0.08, Divine Verdict is deep bulk — you're paying for cardboard and nothing else. That price is stable because demand is structurally low; there's no competitive context likely to move it.
