Divine Deflection is a combat trick and damage redirector in one — pay X, prevent X damage to you or a permanent, then deal that much to any target. The cost scales with your mana, which makes it useful at any stage of the game but unreliable as a proactive threat.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Divine Deflection occupies an odd niche: it can redirect commander damage, save a key permanent, or finish off a weakened player in a single spell, but white has cleaner protection spells and better burn alternatives for each job individually. In Legacy and Vintage it's unplayable — the format speed leaves no room for a sorcery-speed prevention effect that doesn't immediately win the game. Modern is technically legal but there's no realistic shell that wants it. Divine Deflection is closest to playable in Commander Voltron or lifegain-matters builds where the damage prevention doubles as a combat swing, but even there it rarely earns a slot over Deflecting Palm or Selfless Spirit.

Price Context
Current price
$0.25 bulk tier
At $0.25, Divine Deflection is deep bulk — a safe pickup if a specific combo or pet build calls for it, but don't expect the price to move. Supply is high and demand is niche enough that it will stay at this floor indefinitely.
