Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Disrupt is a fringe inclusion — the cantrip makes it card-neutral, but countering only noncreature spells and drawing only on a successful counter limits its reliability in a four-player game where the threat pool is enormous. Pauper is where Disrupt actually shines: one-mana cantripping counterspells are genuinely scarce at common, and the noncreature restriction matters far less when the format's fastest wins run through instants and sorceries. Legacy and Vintage have access to strictly better options like Force of Will and Mana Drain, so Disrupt only shows up in budget builds or as redundancy. Oathbreaker follows the Commander logic — playable but not prioritized.
