Disorienting Choice
Sorcery
For each opponent, choose up to one target artifact or enchantment that player controls. For each permanent chosen this way, its controller may exile it. Then if one or more of the chosen permanents are still on the battlefield, you search your library for up to that many land cards, put them onto the battlefield tapped, then shuffle.

Disorienting Choice puts every opponent to a lose-lose decision — give you a massive hand or hand you a land-drop engine — at the cost of a single blue mana per player at the table. In Zimone, Mystery Unraveler decks it's essentially a ritual: any path opponents pick fuels the engine that converts extra land drops and card volume into free spells.

Zimone, Mystery Unraveler
Zimone, Mystery Unraveler runs Disorienting Choice in over a third of its builds because both halves of the choice directly feed her ability — extra cards mean more spells to cast off her trigger, and extra lands mean more activations to chase those triggers.

Nine-Fingers Keene
Nine-Fingers Keene wants as many cards in hand as possible to fuel connive and evasive attacks, and Disorienting Choice either stocks that hand immediately or accelerates the land drops that let Keene's late-game close faster.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Disorienting Choice is a Commander card through and through — the damage it deals scales with opponent count, so the three-player minimum of a typical Commander pod is where it becomes genuinely back-breaking. In Legacy and Vintage it's legal but unplayed; the one-on-one context kills the scaling math, and neither format is hunting for a sorcery-speed political effect. Oathbreaker is the only other home worth mentioning, and only in shells built around hand size or landfall.

$0.52 bulk tier
At $0.52, Disorienting Choice sits firmly in bulk territory despite showing up in over 14,000 Zimone builds. That price is unlikely to spike without a reprint scare — bulk staples in niche commander archetypes tend to stay cheap.
