Dimir Guildgate card art
Dimir Guildgate enters tapped — full stop — and that single line is the entire cost-benefit argument. In most Commander decks that cost is too high, but Nine-Fingers Keene turns the Gate subtype into a resource, making this one of the few contexts where a tapped dual earns its slot.

Commanders with the highest synergy

01
Nine-Fingers Keene

Nine-Fingers Keene

98.8% of decks · synergy 0.94

Nine-Fingers Keene tutors Gates directly onto the battlefield, so Dimir Guildgate isn't a consolation dual — it's a searchable piece of the engine that fuels Keene's power-counting and draw triggers.

02
Archelos, Lagoon Mystic

Archelos, Lagoon Mystic

37.3% of decks · synergy 0.33

Archelos, Lagoon Mystic neutralizes the enter-tapped downside entirely when Archelos is face-down, turning Dimir Guildgate into a free dual that also synergizes with the deck's enter-tapped land subtheme.

03
Anowon, the Ruin Thief

Anowon, the Ruin Thief

24.0% of decks · synergy 0.17

Anowon, the Ruin Thief is a budget-friendly Dimir build at heart, and Dimir Guildgate slots in as cheap dual fixing for a strategy that cares more about connecting with rogues than hitting lands untapped.

04
Lazav, Dimir Mastermind

Lazav, Dimir Mastermind

20.6% of decks · synergy 0.14

Lazav, Dimir Mastermind decks run Dimir Guildgate primarily for affordable color fixing — Lazav doesn't interact with the Gate subtype, so this is purely a budget land decision in the 20% of lists that include it.

In Commander, Dimir Guildgate is a budget role-player — it does a job other lands do better, but it's legal, it's cheap, and the Gate subtype has genuine payoffs in the right shell. Outside Commander, the tapped downside is almost always disqualifying: Modern, Pioneer, and Legacy have access to fetchlands, shocklands, and fastlands that make a tapped dual a non-starter in any competitive context. Pauper is the one exception worth noting — Dimir Guildgate is common-legal and a legitimate budget option when you need black-blue fixing at the lowest possible floor. Everywhere else, it's a placeholder you swap out the moment a better dual is available.

Price Context

Current price

$0.24 bulk tier

At $0.24, Dimir Guildgate is bulk — you're buying a land slot, not making a financial decision. The price is stable and unlikely to move meaningfully in either direction given the volume of reprints the Gate cycle has seen.
