Didact Echo makes every spell your opponents cast cost one more mana — a persistent tax that compounds across a whole table in Commander. The three-mana enchantment asks very little to land and very little to maintain, which makes it a real card in stax and Group Slug shells.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |

| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Commander is where Didact Echo actually matters: taxing three opponents simultaneously turns a modest effect into a meaningful drag on the whole table, and it slots cleanly into any blue or colorless stax list. In 1v1 formats like Modern, Pioneer, or Legacy, a one-mana-per-spell tax is too slow against decks built to operate efficiently under that kind of pressure, and stronger options exist. Pauper is the one competitive exception worth noting — budget stax strategies there run on thinner margins, and Didact Echo is legal at common — but it still sits below the format's more punishing tax pieces. Everywhere outside Commander, treat it as a casual-only inclusion.

Price Context
Current price
$0.07 bulk tier
At $0.07, Didact Echo is pure bulk — you're paying for cardboard and shipping, not scarcity. Demand is narrow enough that the price is unlikely to move unless a high-profile Commander build puts it in the spotlight.
