In Commander, Devouring Sugarmaw // Have for Dinner slots cleanly into any black-white lifegain or aristocrats shell — five mana for a drain-three on entry plus a lifelink attacker is legitimate value at a multiplayer table where the life swing hits everyone. In competitive 1v1 formats like Modern and Pioneer, five mana is simply too slow for what the card does; a 4/4 lifelink with a drain trigger doesn't close games fast enough against the threats those formats deploy. Standard gives it the most room to breathe outside Commander, particularly in slower midrange builds that want to stabilize and grind, though it still sits at the expensive end of the curve. Legacy and Vintage are non-starters — the mana investment is laughable relative to what those formats are doing.
