Devourer of Memory trades your graveyard for a massive, evasive beater — the bigger the bin, the bigger the threat. The cost is real, but in decks that want the yard empty or treat self-mill as fuel, it's a finisher that scales automatically.

In Commander, Devourer of Memory slots cleanly into self-mill and reanimator strategies as a late-game mana sink that converts a loaded graveyard into a decisive swing — graveyards get large in multiplayer, so the power ceiling is high. In Legacy and Vintage, the graveyard manipulation is aggressive enough that the card could theoretically threaten for enormous numbers, but those formats have faster, more consistent ways to close games and the setup cost is prohibitive. Modern and Pioneer have enough graveyard hate to make relying on Devourer of Memory unreliable in competitive builds, pushing it squarely into casual constructed at those levels. Commander remains the clear home: the long game, the incidental self-mill, and the absence of graveyard hate as a universal assumption all let Devourer of Memory do exactly what it promises.

$0.14 bulk tier
At $0.14, Devourer of Memory is deep bulk — you're paying pennies for a card with genuine upside in the right shell. Bulk mythics with narrow but real Commander applications tend to sit at this floor indefinitely, so there's no urgency either way: pick it up when you need it, don't speculate.
