Devastating Onslaught puts a creature's power directly into another creature's face — twice, at instant speed — and commanders like Terror of the Peaks or Roxanne, Starfall Savant that already care about big numbers turn that into a one-card kill out of nowhere. The cost is real: you need two creatures and a live target, so it blanks in topdeck mode.
Best Commanders
Commanders with the highest synergy

Roxanne, Starfall Savant
Roxanne, Starfall Savant generates Meteor tokens that grow over time, and Devastating Onslaught converts that stored power into direct damage with no combat step required — often as a surprise finisher on an opponent's end step.

The Master, Multiplied
The Master, Multiplied floods the board with token copies, giving Devastating Onslaught a deep pool of high-power sources to double-pump from, frequently closing the game in one activation.

Sami, Wildcat Captain
Sami, Wildcat Captain rewards running large power creatures throughout the deck, and Devastating Onslaught slots naturally into that shell as a reach spell that converts an oversized attacker into a face-targeted kill shot.

Obeka, Brute Chronologist
Obeka, Brute Chronologist decks lean on extra-turn and end-step tricks, and Devastating Onslaught fits cleanly as an instant-speed threat that dodges sorcery-speed interaction on the way to closing out a loop.

Tannuk, Steadfast Second
Tannuk, Steadfast Second cares about creatures with high power surviving into combat, and Devastating Onslaught gives those same creatures a secondary use as a damage vector before blockers are ever declared.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Devastating Onslaught is legal across every major constructed format but has found almost no traction outside Commander — the requirement for two creatures in play is too conditional for formats where board presence is rarely guaranteed by turn four. In Commander it thrives precisely because the game state usually provides those creatures, and the political math of multiplayer means an instant-speed, non-combat kill at any power level catches opponents unprepared. Oathbreaker offers a similar multiplayer environment where it functions the same way. Competitive Legacy, Modern, and Pioneer lists have no interest here; the ceiling is too low against interaction-dense fields where your creatures rarely survive to use them.

Current price
$1.47 cheap tier
At $1.47, Devastating Onslaught sits in the cheap tier — low enough to include speculatively and never feel bad about it. Given its narrow synergy fit, the price reflects real demand from Commander players without outpacing the card's actual utility.
