Desolate Lighthouse card art
Desolate Lighthouse gives blue-red decks a repeatable loot outlet on a land, trading a card you don't need for one you do without spending a spell slot. The cost is real — three mana and a tap on a land that enters tapped — but in Admiral Brass, Unsinkable builds where stocking the graveyard is the whole game, that's not a cost, it's a feature.

Commander is where Desolate Lighthouse earns its keep — 100-card singleton means inconsistent draws are a structural problem, and a land that fixes them passively is worth the enters-tapped tax in any Izzet shell that can spend three mana at sorcery speed. In Legacy and Vintage, it's legal but irrelevant; those formats move too fast for a three-mana land activation to compete with Brainstorm on one mana. Modern has similarly moved past slow utility lands as pure filtering, where one-mana cantrips dominate. Pioneer and Standard have never had access to it, and Oathbreaker mirrors Commander's logic closely enough that the card sees the same niche play there.

Price Context

Current price

$0.26 bulk tier

At $0.26, Desolate Lighthouse is bulk — you're paying almost nothing for a land that does real work in the right deck. It's been reprinted enough that the price has a floor near zero and nowhere interesting to go, so buy it for the effect, not the foil.
