Deprive counters any spell, no questions asked — the cost is bouncing one of your own lands back to hand. In most decks that's a real setback, but Tatyova, Benthic Druid turns the bounce into a cantrip, erasing the downside entirely and making this a two-mana hard counter with upside.

Tatyova, Benthic Druid
Tatyova, Benthic Druid triggers on every land entering the battlefield, so replaying the land you bounced for Deprive draws a card and gains a life — the "cost" becomes a free spell that refuels your hand.

In Commander, Deprive earns its slot only in decks that profit from replaying lands — otherwise the tempo loss of resetting a land drop is too steep against three opponents. Pauper is where it really shines: hard counters at common are rare, and the land-bounce cost is manageable in a format with slower clocks. Legacy and Vintage have strictly better options at the same mana, so Deprive doesn't see play there. Modern has enough two-mana interaction that Deprive competes, but the land bounce keeps it off most lists.
