Deny Entry counters a creature or planeswalker spell and investigates — counterspell plus a free Clue on the same card. Five mana is a steep ask, though, and that cost keeps it off most competitive lists.

In Commander, Deny Entry fits token-value and clue-synergy decks — specifically Alquist Proft, Master Investigator or Lonis, Cryptozoologist builds that want every Clue they can generate. Outside those shells, five mana for a conditional counter is too slow when cheaper options exist. In Pauper, the combination of counterspell and artifact token on one card at common is genuinely interesting, and clue payoffs make it worth testing. Legacy and Vintage both have access to hard counters at one or two mana, so Deny Entry doesn't register there.

Price Context
Current price
$0.20 bulk tier
At $0.20, Deny Entry is bulk — buy a playset without thinking about it. That price is stable; there's no spike catalyst unless a clue-synergy commander breaks out and pulls the whole archetype up.
