Dematerialize bounces a target permanent and draws you a card for four mana — functional, but four mana for a tempo play that replaces itself is the floor, not the ceiling. Blue has cheaper bounce and better card draw; this slot is almost always better spent elsewhere.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |

| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |

| vintage | legal |

In Commander, Dematerialize sits below the cut line — four mana at sorcery speed for a bounce effect competes with Cyclonic Rift, Echoing Truth, and Winds of Rebuke, none of which ask you to spend four mana. The card draw stapled on softens the loss, but it doesn't close the gap enough to justify the slot in a 99-card singleton format where efficiency is at a premium. In Pauper, the commons pool is more forgiving and the cantrip matters more, making Dematerialize a plausible role-player in tempo shells where every card drawn has value. Legacy and Vintage have no interest — the format speed makes a four-mana sorcery effectively unplayable.

Price Context
Current price
$0.08 bulk tier
At $0.08, Dematerialize is deep bulk with no price floor worth protecting. It won't hold value, and there's no shortage of supply — pick it up freely if a budget Pauper build calls for it, but don't hold multiples.
