Degavolver is a flexible threat that scales with how much mana you invest at cast time, coming down as a 1/1 with first strike at minimum or a 3/3 with first strike, trample, and regeneration if you pour in all three kicker costs. The ceiling is real for a three-color creature, but the floor is embarrassingly small, and paying full price puts you at five mana for a 3/3 — a rate that rarely justifies the slot.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t

In Commander, Degavolver sits on the fringe — Esper and Dimir shells running Yawgmoth, Thran Physician or Oloro, Ageless Ascetic can technically cast it, but there's almost always a better creature at every point on the curve. Legacy and Vintage see none of it; the format pool is deep enough that a scaling vanilla-adjacent creature never competes. The kicker mechanic is more rewarding in dedicated kicker decks, but even there Degavolver is rarely the payoff you're building toward.

Price Context
Current price
$0.31 bulk tier
At $0.31, Degavolver is firmly bulk — you're paying for cardboard, not power. Don't expect the price to move; demand is low and copies are plentiful, so it holds its floor but has no meaningful ceiling.
