Deftblade Elite is a one-mana white creature that can repeatedly provoke blockers and shrink them to zero power, functioning as a repeatable, targeted combat trick stapled to a body. The activation cost is real — two mana each turn — but the ability to lock down a creature every attack step without spending a card is worth the slot in dedicated white weenie or combat-centric builds.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Deftblade Elite sees essentially no play in Legacy or Vintage despite being legal — the power ceiling in those formats makes a 1/1 provoke creature irrelevant. Pauper is where Deftblade Elite has the most plausible home, since the common-only card pool rewards cheap, persistent utility creatures that generate incremental advantage in combat. In Commander, it's a fringe inclusion at best, fitting only in white weenie or Voltron strategies where you can reliably protect it and have the mana to activate it each turn.

Price Context
Current price
unknown tier
Price data for Deftblade Elite isn't currently available, but as a common from an older set with narrow competitive appeal, it typically sits well under $1. If you want it for a budget white weenie or pauper build, buylist copies are abundant and there's no urgency — supply is not going anywhere.
