Deathknell Kami replaces itself when it dies, putting a 1/1 Spirit token into play — but a 2/1 for three mana that needs to die to generate value is a tempo hole most decks can't afford. It's a bulk common for a reason: the payoff is real, the rate is not.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Deathknell Kami sees essentially zero play across competitive formats — Legacy, Vintage, and Modern have far more efficient recursive threats and token generators. In Pauper it's technically legal but too slow for a format where every mana matters. Commander is the only realistic home, and even there Deathknell Kami only earns a slot in dedicated Spirit tribal decks or aristocrats builds that specifically want cheap death triggers — it's not a generically good card, just a passable role-player in a narrow context.

Price Context
Current price
$0.07 bulk tier
At $0.07, Deathknell Kami is deep bulk — you're not buying it for value, you're grabbing it out of a common box. That price is a ceiling, not a floor; demand isn't there to push it higher.
