Death or Glory card art
Death or Glory splits your graveyard creatures into two piles and lets an opponent choose — one pile returns to play, the other is exiled, so the card lives or dies on how well you can make both piles look attractive. The Celestial Toymaker is the premier home because forced-choice asymmetry is exactly the engine that commander wants to exploit.

The Celestial Toymaker turns opponent decisions into traps, and Death or Glory is a perfect instrument — stack one pile with your actual engine pieces and one pile with expendable bodies, and the opponent is choosing between bad and worse.

Format Analysis

Death or Glory is legal in Commander, Legacy, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, and Commander is the only format where it sees real play. In Legacy and Vintage, five mana at sorcery speed for a conditional mass reanimate is simply too slow against live combo decks, and you rarely accumulate the graveyard density to make the pile-split meaningful. In Commander, the political texture changes everything — opponents at a full table will often make the wrong call, and redundant creatures make it easy to load both piles with threats. Oathbreaker is theoretically legal but the format's compressed games rarely reach the board state Death or Glory needs.

Price Context

Current price

$0.75 bulk tier

At $0.75, Death or Glory sits firmly in bulk territory — cheap enough to throw into any Celestial Toymaker list without a second thought. Bulk rares with narrow homes tend to stay flat, so don't expect movement unless The Celestial Toymaker spikes in popularity.
