Daxos of Meletis
Legendary Creature — Human Soldier
Daxos can't be blocked by creatures with power 3 or greater.
Whenever Daxos deals combat damage to a player, exile the top card of that player's library. You gain life equal to that card's mana value. Until end of turn, you may cast that card and you may spend mana as though it were mana of any color to cast that spell.

Daxos of Meletis connects for combat damage and you cast a card from your opponent's deck for free — that's a repeatable engine stapled to a 2/2 with evasion and lifelink. The cost is his fragility: three toughness dies to almost every incidental removal spell, and he needs to connect to do anything, so a single blocker shuts him down. Kamiz, Obscura Oculus solves both problems by making Daxos unblockable and pumping him, which is exactly why that pairing dominates his inclusion numbers.

Commanders with the highest synergy

Kamiz, Obscura Oculus
Kamiz, Obscura Oculus turns Daxos of Meletis into a guaranteed trigger every combat — Kamiz's cipher-and-connive mechanic makes the first attacker unblockable, so Daxos connects, steals a card, and generates life without needing any other setup.

Sen Triplets
Sen Triplets already wants to play from opponents' hands and decks, so Daxos of Meletis is a direct extension of that game plan — he generates the exile fodder that Sen Triplets then turns into additional resources while keeping opponents locked out.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Daxos of Meletis is legal in Commander, Legacy, Modern, Pioneer, Vintage, and Oathbreaker, but Commander is the only format where he sees meaningful play. In 60-card formats he's simply too slow and too fragile — a three-mana 2/2 that requires combat damage to generate value doesn't survive contact with the removal density in Legacy or Modern. Commander slows the game down enough that his repeated trigger actually fires, and multiplayer tables give him multiple targets to steal from, which amplifies his ceiling considerably. In Oathbreaker he's a legal option but not a compelling one; the 20-life format favors faster closes than a combat-damage engine can provide.

$0.26 bulk tier
At $0.26, Daxos of Meletis sits firmly in bulk territory — you can pick him up as a throw-in or pull him from a bulk bin without thinking twice. Bulk mythics with niche Commander homes tend to stay flat unless a new commander pushes serious demand, and nothing on the horizon changes that math for him.
