Darksteel Brute is a two-mana 2/2 with indestructible — solid stats for the cost, and indestructible on an artifact creature is genuinely hard to remove. The catch is that it does nothing beyond being a resilient body, which limits it to shells that specifically want indestructible artifacts or aggressive two-drops.

In Commander, Darksteel Brute earns a slot almost exclusively in artifact-matters decks that want indestructible permanents to enable specific synergies — think equipment voltron commanders or Breya-style artifact value engines. Elsewhere it's a vanilla 2/2 with a keyword, which doesn't move the needle in a 100-card format. In Legacy and Vintage, two mana for a 2/2 with indestructible is far too slow and underpowered to compete with the format's actual threats. Oathbreaker is the only other format where it's legal, and the same Commander logic applies — fine in a dedicated artifact shell, irrelevant otherwise.
