In Commander, Dark Endurance earns its slot in black decks that care about protecting a key creature — particularly voltron or reanimator builds where losing a specific piece derails the game plan. Outside Commander, it's legal across every major format, but in competitive 1v1 contexts it struggles to make cuts: Modern and Legacy have access to Heroic Intervention and Undying Evil at the same cost or cheaper, with wider protective coverage.
