Dakkon, Shadow Slayer turns your land count into a removal engine — his minus ability exiles any creature or planeswalker with mana value equal to or less than his shadow counters, and in a land-dense shell he hits almost anything on the board. The cost is that he needs time or acceleration to stack those counters, which is where Coretapper and proliferate support come in; Aminatou, the Fateshifter sidesteps the buildup problem entirely by blinking him to reset his loyalty after the minus.

Aminatou, the Fateshifter
Aminatou, the Fateshifter blinks Dakkon, Shadow Slayer after he fires his minus, effectively giving him a fresh set of counters on the same turn and turning a once-per-rotation removal spell into a repeatable board-control tool.

Commander is where Dakkon, Shadow Slayer actually lives — either as the general of an Esper land-matters shell or as a value piece in the 99 of any deck that wants targeted exile on a planeswalker body. In Legacy and Vintage he's legal but structurally outclassed: four mana for a conditional removal effect that requires setup is nowhere near competitive in formats where Swords to Plowshares costs one. Oathbreaker gives him a second home as the commander himself, where the 60-card singleton constraint rewards his land-count scaling a bit more tightly than the typical 100-card build.
