Cytoplast Root-Kin card art
Cytoplast Root-Kin enters and redistributes all +1/+1 counters from your other creatures onto itself, then puts one counter back on each of them — a mass proliferate-style reset that rewards dense counter boards. The cost is a 4/4 body for four mana that demands a graft or counter synergy shell to justify the slot.

Commander is where Cytoplast Root-Kin earns its keep — graft and +1/+1 counter synergies are Commander archetypes, and the redistribution ability scales with board width in a way that 1v1 formats never support. In Legacy and Vintage it is technically legal but entirely outclassed; four mana for a 4/4 with a narrow tribal-style ability does nothing in those formats. Modern has better counter payoffs at lower mana costs and no reason to run Cytoplast Root-Kin competitively. Oathbreaker can support it in dedicated counter builds, but the smaller deck size and focused gameplan make it a fringe inclusion at best.

Price Context

Current price

$0.14 bulk tier

At $0.14, Cytoplast Root-Kin is deep bulk — a fully negligible financial ask for any counter-based Commander deck. Prices at this tier rarely move unless a reprint or spike creates sudden demand, so there is no urgency either way.
