Curtain of Light forces a creature to block, then replaces itself — the card-draw clause is what separates it from pure filler. It's a narrow combat trick with a cantrip stapled on, and that combination still isn't enough to make the cut in most 100-card lists.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Curtain of Light is legal in Commander, Legacy, Modern, Vintage, Pauper, and Oathbreaker, but seeing real play in almost none of them. Pauper is the only format where a cycling-style cantrip combat trick could theoretically find a home in a white aggro shell, but even there the effect is too conditional — your opponent has to have an untapped creature, and you have to want it blocking. In Commander, the card is essentially unplayable; a one-time forced block that draws a card does nothing to advance a board state or protect against the threats that actually end games at a table of four.

Price Context
Current price
$0.19 bulk tier
At $0.19, Curtain of Light is deep bulk — the kind of card that ends up in trade binders and draft chaff piles. That price won't move; there's no competitive demand pulling it anywhere.
