Cultivator of Blades card art
Cultivator of Blades lands and immediately pumps every creature you control when it attacks — that's a combat-step anthem on a body, and it scales hard with wide boards. The five-mana cost is real, but Ezuri, Claw of Progress turns that enters-the-battlefield trigger into experience counters and Nim Deathmantle loops make the pump repeatable enough to close games on the spot.

Ezuri, Claw of Progress banks experience counters off Cultivator of Blades entering the battlefield, then the attack trigger doubles or triples the power of every creature Ezuri has already buffed — the two cards form a feedback loop where each experience counter makes the pump swing more threatening.

Cultivator of Blades is a Commander card through and through — the attack trigger needs a wide board to matter, and multiplayer games give you the time and the creatures to make that payoff devastating. In competitive 60-card formats like Modern or Pioneer it's too slow and too conditional; a five-mana creature that requires you to already be ahead on board to win harder doesn't fit the tempo those formats demand. Legacy has better payoffs for similar mana investment and ignores it entirely. Commander is where Cultivator of Blades earns its slot, specifically in token and +1/+1 counter shells that can guarantee a wide attack.

Price Context

Current price

$0.31 bulk tier

At $0.31, Cultivator of Blades is deep bulk — easy to pick up as a throw-in or out of a bulk bin. Bulk rares with narrow, archetype-specific appeal rarely climb unless they land on a reprint-free staple list, so don't expect movement; just grab one if the deck wants it.
