Crushing Vines hits either a creature with flying or an artifact or enchantment — flexible targeting at instant speed for three mana. It's functional but perpetually competing with split cards and modal spells that do the same job cheaper or wider.

In Commander, Crushing Vines fills the role of creature-with-flying removal and artifact/enchantment hate on a single card, which matters in a format where dragons, sphinxes, and Smothering Tithes all share the threat pool. The problem is that three mana at instant speed is a real cost when Nature's Claim and Force of Vigor exist, and the flying clause is too narrow to justify the slot in most lists. Pauper is where Crushing Vines earns genuine respect — the removal suite is constrained, flying creatures define the format, and modal utility at common rarity is scarce. In Legacy or Vintage it's never seeing a sideboard; green has better options at every point on the curve.

$0.11 bulk tier
At $0.11, Crushing Vines is bulk through and through — easy to pick up as a placeholder but not a card you're holding onto. Bulk commons with narrow utility don't appreciate, so treat it as a budget stopgap while you find the upgrade.
