In Commander, Crater's Claws is a late-game mana sink that can close out a single opponent once you've accumulated enough mana — the Ferocious bonus pushes it from functional to threatening in green-red stompy builds. Outside of Commander, it competes in a crowded field: Modern and Pioneer both have access to more efficient burn, and without a dedicated Ferocious payoff deck there's almost no reason to choose Crater's Claws over a cheaper spell. Legacy is the same story — the card is legal but irrelevant at that power level. Oathbreaker is where it finds a second home, particularly under a high-power green commander where mana scales fast and the Ferocious trigger is nearly guaranteed.
