Crafty Pathmage gives any target creature unblockable for a turn at the cost of tapping itself and that creature — a two-card investment that trades board presence for one guaranteed hit. Narrow, fragile, and replaceable by cheaper effects; run it only if you're deep in a Rogue or unblockable-matters theme and out of better options.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Crafty Pathmage sees essentially no competitive play in Legacy, Vintage, or Modern, where unblockable effects either come stapled to better bodies or aren't worth a card slot at all. In Pauper, the common designation is irrelevant since the effect is too slow and too interactive to matter in that format's tempo-driven games. Commander is the only format where Crafty Pathmage has any home, and even there it's a fringe inclusion — it fits narrowest in decks that want to force through one large creature repeatedly, such as Voltron or certain Rogue-tribal builds, but most such decks have access to enchantments or activated abilities that don't strand two permanents tapped.

Price Context
Current price
$0.10 bulk tier
At $0.10, Crafty Pathmage is deep bulk — the price reflects exactly what the market thinks of it. It won't appreciate; there's no scenario where demand outpaces the massive print supply of a common at this power level.
