Crack the Earth

In Commander, Crack the Earth is a niche card that earns its slot only in decks that profit from sacrificing their own permanents — otherwise, blowing up one land per opponent at sorcery speed is too slow to matter at a four-player table. Pauper is where it sees the most competitive play, typically in aggressive red shells that can empty their hand fast enough to make a symmetrical sacrifice punishing only the opponent. In Legacy and Vintage, one-mana land destruction exists on a spectrum where faster, more lopsided options dominate, so Crack the Earth rarely competes. Modern has similar issues — the effect is fair, and fair land destruction at sorcery speed doesn't cut it in that format's current landscape.
