Covetous Elegy card art
Covetous Elegy makes each opponent sacrifice down to the smallest hand size at the table, then draws you cards equal to the total permanents they lost — a board wipe that replaces itself based on how much it destroys. The cost is five mana in three colors, which limits which decks can reliably cast it, but the payoff is among the most lopsided pile of card advantage a single spell can generate at a multiplayer table.

Format Analysis

In Commander, Covetous Elegy scales with the number of opponents in a way almost no other card does — with three opponents holding uneven hand sizes, you can easily draw four to eight cards while gutting multiple boards simultaneously. Legacy and Vintage have it legal, but those formats are too fast and too focused on one opponent for a five-mana sorcery that rewards seat count to compete. Oathbreaker is legal and worth considering in two-player pods, though the power floor drops sharply when you're only pressuring one opponent's hand.

Price Context

Current price

$0.45 bulk tier

At $0.45, Covetous Elegy sits firmly in bulk rare territory, which understates what it does at a Commander table. The price reflects low constructed demand, not power level — pick it up now before any spike, because this kind of splashy multiplayer effect has a history of getting discovered.
