Courier's Briefcase card art
Courier's Briefcase is a three-mana artifact that taps for one mana of any color and replaces itself with a card whenever you cast a multicolored spell — slow by competitive standards, but it pulls double duty as both a mana fixer and a draw engine in the right shell. The setup cost is real, so it earns its slot only in multicolor-heavy decks that can trigger it consistently.

Format Analysis

Where it lives, where it can’t

In Commander, Courier's Briefcase fits best in four- and five-color decks where both halves — the mana fixing and the card draw — get constant use; in a two-color deck it's probably just a worse Arcane Signet. Competitive formats like Modern and Legacy have no interest in it: three mana for a conditional draw trigger is glacially slow next to the format's actual card advantage engines. Pioneer is similarly uncharitable. Oathbreaker can get value out of it in a multicolor-dense list, but the small deck size means you'll see it less often than you need it.

Price Context

Current price

$0.13 bulk tier

At $0.13, Courier's Briefcase is deep bulk — you'll find it in any bulk bin or throw-in trade. That price is stable by definition; there's no competitive demand to push it, so it stays a quarter-or-less staple you grab without thinking.
