Cosmic Larva hits for 6 trample on turn three, which is a clock most tables can't ignore. The catch is real: you sacrifice two lands at the start of each upkeep or it eats itself, so running it without a plan to cheat that cost is just paying three mana to dismantle your own mana base.

In Commander, Cosmic Larva belongs in decks that can recur lands — Titania, Protector of Argoth, Omnath, Locus of Rage, or any shell that converts land sacrifice into value rather than tempo loss. In Legacy and Vintage it's too slow and too fragile to see play; a 6/4 trample that eats two lands per turn loses to a Swords to Plowshares and leaves you crippled. Modern has access to faster threats with no drawback, so Cosmic Larva doesn't compete there either. The card's home is squarely in Commander, and even then only in a specific land-centric shell.

Price Context
Current price
$0.29 bulk tier
At $0.29, Cosmic Larva is deep bulk — you're paying for cardboard, not demand. The price reflects exactly how narrow the card is; it won't climb without a breakout commander that makes the land-sacrifice cost free.
