Corpse Explosion hits every opponent's creature for X damage where X is a chosen creature's power — that's a board wipe stapled to a finisher in any deck that can put a fatty in the graveyard. The two-card setup cost is real, but in black-heavy graveyard or reanimator shells, the pieces are already there.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Corpse Explosion is a Commander card through and through — the format's singleton graveyard density and multiplayer board states are exactly where paying four mana to nuke every opposing creature simultaneously becomes back-breaking. In Legacy, Modern, and Pioneer it's legal but practically invisible: competitive formats punish four-mana sorceries that require a setup piece, and efficient spot removal does the job faster. Vintage has the same problem at higher speed. Oathbreaker can support it in a graveyard-focused build, but the two-card dependency is harder to assemble on a smaller deck and a smaller board.

Price Context
Current price
$0.28 bulk tier
At $0.28, Corpse Explosion is pure bulk — buy a playset for under a dollar and don't think twice. Bulk rares with niche Commander appeal tend to stay in this range unless a pushed commander drives sudden demand, so treat it as an easy include, not an acquisition target.
