Contraband Kingpin blocks almost any early threat in blue-black, and every artifact that touches the battlefield replaces itself with a scry. Two mana for a 1/4 lifelinker that also smooths your draws is a real rate, and the scry trigger scales with any artifact-heavy shell.

In Commander, Contraband Kingpin slots cleanly into artifact-heavy blue-black builds — Breya, Etherium Shaper and Sydri, Galvanic Genius lists run it as low-cost card filtering that also survives combat. Outside EDH, it sees near-zero competitive play: Modern and Pioneer have better two-drops in both the lifelink and artifact-synergy categories, so Contraband Kingpin is strictly a casual and Commander card at this point.

Price Context
Current price
$0.33 bulk tier
At $0.33, Contraband Kingpin is bulk — easy to pick up in trade binders or throw into any order. Bulk rares with narrow homes rarely climb unless a new Commander prints direct synergy, so expect it to stay in this range.
