Consumed by Greed card art
Consumed by Greed hits the table and immediately cashes in multiple tokens or small creatures for a burst of life and cards — the kind of effect that can refill a hand mid-game while stabilizing your life total in one motion. The cost is real: you need fodder ready, and a board wipe the turn before leaves you with nothing to sacrifice. In the right shell, though, this is a must-answer threat that snowballs fast.

Best Commanders

Commanders with the highest synergy

01
Vren, the Relentless

Vren, the Relentless

20.7% of decks · synergy 0.20

Vren, the Relentless generates a constant stream of Rat tokens to sacrifice, making Consumed by Greed a reliable draw engine rather than a one-shot burst — the more Rats Vren produces, the more this scales.

02
Camellia, the Seedmiser

Camellia, the Seedmiser

17.1% of decks · synergy 0.16

Camellia, the Seedmiser churns out Insect tokens whenever you play spells targeting your own creatures, and Consumed by Greed converts that token flood directly into life and cards.

03
Fumulus, the Infestation

Fumulus, the Infestation

12.0% of decks · synergy 0.11

Fumulus, the Infestation populates the board with expendable countered creatures, and Consumed by Greed turns that proliferating mass into sustained card advantage at instant speed.

04
Zoraline, Cosmos Caller

Zoraline, Cosmos Caller

10.6% of decks · synergy 0.10

Zoraline, Cosmos Caller builds wide through ritual sacrifice loops, and Consumed by Greed slots in as a payoff that rewards you for having creatures in the yard and bodies on board simultaneously.

oathbreaker

Consumed by Greed is a Commander card through and through — the effect scales with the token density and sacrifice synergies that Commander games generate naturally, and three mana at instant speed is a reasonable ask when you're cashing in four or five bodies at once. In 1v1 formats like Modern or Pioneer, the card is legal but almost never sees play; competitive decks there run leaner sacrifice payoffs that don't need a critical mass on the battlefield to justify the slot. Legacy and Vintage have access to everything, which prices Consumed by Greed out of those formats entirely — faster, less conditional draw exists at every point on the curve. Oathbreaker is the closest analog to Commander in terms of board development, and the card performs similarly there in sacrifice-focused builds.

Price Context

Current price

$0.26 bulk tier

At $0.26, Consumed by Greed sits firmly in bulk territory — the kind of card you pick up as a throw-in without thinking twice. The price reflects its narrow home; it's not going anywhere unless a future Commander printing pushes sacrifice-token synergies into the mainstream spotlight.
