Constrictor Sage enters and immediately halves the power of every creature an opponent controls — a punishing tempo swing for three mana. The effect is real, the cost is low, and in creature-heavy metas it does meaningful work the turn it lands.
Format Analysis

Commander is where Constrictor Sage earns its keep: multiplayer tables are packed with large creatures, and a single Sage can cripple an alpha strike or buy a full extra turn. In 1v1 formats like Modern or Pioneer, halving one opponent's board is less likely to be backbreaking, and three mana for a 2/3 with no evasion rarely makes the cut against purpose-built aggro or combo. Legacy and Vintage have no interest in it. Standard is its only real 60-card home, and only in dedicated value or stax shells that want the body alongside the effect.

Price Context
Current price
$0.11 bulk tier
At $0.11, Constrictor Sage is pure bulk — you're paying for the cardboard, not any scarcity premium. That price is stable by default; there's no trajectory pushing it higher unless a Commander precon or viral deck list adopts it en masse.
