Confession Dial lets you look at an opponent's hand and exile a nonland card from it — repeatable hand disruption stapled to an artifact that also taps for colorless mana. The setup cost (three mana plus tapping a creature you control) is real, but the effect scales with the number of creatures you run and punishes opponents who stockpile answers.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Confession Dial is a Commander card through and through — the 100-card singleton format rewards incremental disruption, and stripping a combo piece or a board wipe from an opponent's hand before they can deploy it is worth the investment in a multiplayer game. In Legacy and Vintage, where Confession Dial is technically legal, the tempo cost of tapping a creature to activate it is disqualifying; those formats kill faster than hand disruption at this speed can matter. Oathbreaker is the one other constructed-adjacent format where it sees any meaningful consideration, particularly in decks that already want repeatable discard outlets.

Price Context
Current price
$0.17 bulk tier
At $0.17, Confession Dial is deep bulk — you're not paying a premium for the effect, and there's no meaningful price floor to fall through. Bulk rares rarely climb unless a specific combo or commander breakout pushes demand, so treat this as a cheap pickup if the effect fits your build, not a spec.
