Cloudthresher enters and immediately hits every creature with flying for 2 damage, then swings as a 7/7 reach — that's a board wipe stapled to a threat for six mana. The evoke cost of two Forests makes it a reasonable panic button even when you can't afford the full body.

In Commander, Cloudthresher fills a role green genuinely struggles with: instant-speed mass removal against flying creatures, which often includes the most dangerous threats on the table. The evoke mode is the real draw — two green mana at instant speed for a 2-damage wrath to all flyers is a playable rate when your meta runs Consecrated Sphinx or Alandra, Sky Dreamer. In Legacy and Vintage, Cloudthresher is legal but too slow and too narrow to compete with the efficient threats and interaction those formats demand. Modern is similarly unkind — six mana sorcery-speed threats need to end the game immediately, and this one doesn't. Cloudthresher's best home is clearly Commander, specifically Elemental tribal or Titania-style sacrifice decks where the evoke trigger is a feature, not a concession.

Price Context
Current price
$0.46 bulk tier
At $0.46, Cloudthresher is deep bulk — you're paying for cardboard, not scarcity. It's unlikely to spike unless an Elemental-matters Commander drives demand, so pick it up whenever without any concern about the price moving.
