Clone Legion card art
Clone Legion copies every creature an opponent controls — token copies onto your board, no limit — for nine mana, and the raw board swing can end games on the spot. Hidetsugu and Kairi enables a broken shortcut: cast Clone Legion off the top with Hidetsugu and Kairi's trigger, pay nothing, and suddenly you're fielding a second copy of whatever your opponent spent the whole game assembling.

01
Hidetsugu and Kairi

Hidetsugu and Kairi

53.7% of decks · synergy 0.53

Hidetsugu and Kairi's triggered ability lets you cast Clone Legion for free when it's the top card milled, turning a nine-mana spell into a zero-cost army that appears at instant speed before anyone can respond to the trigger.

02
Elminster

Elminster

35.4% of decks · synergy 0.34

Elminster generates scry effects constantly, and Clone Legion is exactly the kind of high-impact sorcery worth stacking to the top — Elminster decks run it in over a third of builds because the payoff justifies the setup.

03
Magnus the Red

Magnus the Red

32.0% of decks · synergy 0.30

Magnus the Red copies instants and sorceries whenever a Demon or Wizard is created, so Clone Legion resolves once on the stack and then again for free — suddenly you're fielding two full copies of an opponent's board.

04
Zevlor, Elturel Exile

Zevlor, Elturel Exile

31.0% of decks · synergy 0.30

Zevlor, Elturel Exile can redirect Clone Legion's target to each opponent instead of one, and that text transforms a single nine-mana sorcery into a triple board-theft that makes every other player's creatures fight for you.

05
Neera, Wild Mage

Neera, Wild Mage

27.9% of decks · synergy 0.26

Neera, Wild Mage randomly exchanges spells you cast with ones from your library, and Clone Legion is the dream hit — Neera decks run it as a jackpot target that immediately justifies every failed roll leading up to it.

Format Analysis

Where it lives, where it can’t

FormatVerdict
commander
legacy
modern
pioneer
standard
vintage
pauper
oathbreaker

Clone Legion is a Commander card through and through — the format's singleton rule and multiplayer board states are exactly where copying an entire army is backbreaking rather than win-more. In Legacy, Modern, and Pioneer it's legal but effectively unplayed: nine mana is uncastable in those formats' tempo economies, and your opponent rarely has enough creatures to justify the cost over faster, cheaper threats. Vintage has the mana acceleration to theoretically land it, but there are simply better ways to spend nine mana with Black Lotus on the table. Clone Legion's price and power ceiling both live in Commander, where lategame sorceries that generate immediate board dominance have a natural home.

Price Context

Current price

$1.22 cheap tier

At $1.22, Clone Legion is firmly budget territory for a card that regularly swings Commander games in a single turn. The price reflects how few non-Commander formats want it, not the power level — for decks that can cast or cheat it, this is one of the better dollar-for-impact slots in the format.
