Clergy en-Vec offers a repeatable protection ability — tap to give a target creature protection from red and from black until end of turn — but a three-mana 1/1 that does nothing the turn it enters is a difficult ask in any competitive context. Outside of very specific life-gain or tap-synergy shells, it doesn't justify a slot.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Clergy en-Vec sees essentially no play in Legacy or Vintage despite being legal — the effect is too narrow and the body too small to compete. In Commander, it occupies a niche in dedicated tap-synergy or white weenie life-gain builds, but even there it rarely earns a spot over more versatile protection pieces. Pauper is the most charitable home: combat tricks and protection effects carry more weight at common, and repeatedly shielding a key attacker from red and black removal has real applications in a slower, creature-focused game.

Price Context
Current price
$0.25 bulk tier
At $0.25, Clergy en-Vec is firmly bulk — the price reflects demand, which is low. It's stable at that floor but unlikely to move without a dramatic shift in the formats where it's legal.
