Clear a Path destroys one defender-only creature for a single red mana — clean, instant-speed reach removal with a narrow target. It's too situational for most Commander lists, but if your meta runs Fog Bank or Hover Barrier strategies, it does exactly one job for exactly one mana.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Clear a Path is legal across Commander, Legacy, Modern, Pioneer, Vintage, Pauper, and Oathbreaker, but it sees almost no play in any of them. In Commander, the defender restriction makes it dead against the majority of threats at any given table — you want removal that hits anything, not something that misses 90% of the board. In Pauper, where aggressive red decks exist and Fog Bank is a real obstacle, Clear a Path is at least plausible as a one-of answer. Everywhere else, better red removal exists at the same mana cost.

Price Context
Current price
$0.03 bulk tier
At $0.03, Clear a Path is deep bulk — it costs less than the sleeve you'd put it in. That price reflects its narrow playability accurately and isn't going anywhere.
