Citywatch Sphinx replaces itself when it enters and leaves, giving you two cards of selection for a 4/3 flyer body — that's real value. The problem is the six mana it costs to deploy it, which is a steep ask when most blue decks have better card engines available at lower points on the curve.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | not legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Citywatch Sphinx is a fringe inclusion — it fits blink and flicker shells that need bodies with ETB and LTB triggers, but six mana is a real cost in a format where draw engines like Rhystic Study and Mulldrifter exist. In Legacy, Modern, and Pioneer it is functionally unplayable; the rate on a 4/3 flyer with scry is nowhere near competitive for those formats, where efficiency is measured in mana spent per immediate impact. Oathbreaker shares enough of Commander's casual, value-oriented texture that the same niche blink-shell logic applies, though the 60-card singleton constraint makes finding the right home harder.

Price Context
Current price
$0.13 bulk tier
At $0.13, Citywatch Sphinx is deep bulk — the kind of card that ends up in draft chaff boxes. That price is stable because demand is narrow and supply is high; don't expect movement in either direction.
