Citadel Gate enters tapped and costs six mana to produce one colored mana — that's a steep ask in any format. Outside of dedicated Shrine synergy builds helmed by Go-Shintai of Life's Origin, where its Shrine type is the point, it has no business in a Commander deck.

Go-Shintai of Life's Origin
Go-Shintai of Life's Origin wants every Shrine it can get, and Citadel Gate counts — the card's value here is its type line, not its mana production.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
In Commander, Citadel Gate is a near-dead slot in any deck that isn't explicitly counting Shrines — six mana for a tapped dual is unplayable in a vacuum. Pauper is the one format where it sees marginal consideration, since the Gate subtype enables Gatecrash synergies at common and the card pool is constrained enough that slow fixing has a real place. Legacy and Vintage are legal but irrelevant; the card will never touch either format competitively. Citadel Gate exists in Commander almost entirely as a Shrine-type body for Go-Shintai decks, and that's the only context worth evaluating it in.

Price Context
Current price
$1.40 cheap tier
At $1.40, Citadel Gate sits at the high end of what you'd expect for a bulk utility land — demand from Go-Shintai of Life's Origin players propping up a card that would otherwise be a quarter. It's a fine buy if you're building that deck, but don't expect the price to climb; the player base is narrow.
