Choking Miasma kills every non-black creature on the board for three mana at sorcery speed — that's a one-sided wrath in mono-black or heavily black decks. The color restriction is real, but in the right shell it's strictly better than most four-mana symmetrical board wipes.

Choking Miasma is a Commander card through and through — the format's multi-player board states and creature-heavy metas are exactly where a cheap asymmetric wipe earns its slot. In Legacy, Modern, and Pioneer it's outclassed by faster, more flexible removal, and black aggro has no interest in clearing its own board. Oathbreaker follows the same logic as Commander: if your planeswalker and signature spell dodge black, Choking Miasma can close out a game, but the smaller starting life total means it often comes down too late to matter.
