Chittering Witch enters with a Rat for each opponent — three in a four-player pod — and a repeatable drain ability that turns that token flood into a removal tool. The five-mana cost is real, but decks like Totentanz, Swarm Piper that want density of Rats and a reanimation target for Nim Deathmantle will never complain about what she puts on the table.
Best Commanders
Commanders with the highest synergy

Totentanz, Swarm Piper
Totentanz, Swarm Piper turns every nontoken creature death into a Rat, so Chittering Witch entering with three bodies immediately feeds that engine — and her pay-two-sacrifice ability gives Totentanz a built-in outlet to convert excess Rats into targeted drain.

Wick, the Whorled Mind
Wick, the Whorled Mind cares about having multiple creatures of the same type, and Chittering Witch front-loads three Rats the moment she resolves, giving Wick an instant critical mass to start copying triggered abilities or enabling foretell payoffs.

Ayara, First of Locthwain
Ayara, First of Locthwain drains life for each black creature entering under your control, so Chittering Witch's three-Rat ETB translates directly into three triggers — and the sacrificed Rats can tap Ayara for card draw.

Hazel of the Rootbloom
Hazel of the Rootbloom proliferates counters and rewards token production across multiple creature types, and Chittering Witch supplies an immediate Rat token burst that Hazel can multiply and buff across subsequent turns.

Karumonix, the Rat King
Karumonix, the Rat King gives all Rats poison and wants as many Rats in play as possible; Chittering Witch guarantees three poisonous attackers on arrival and provides a sacrifice outlet to remove blockers standing between your Rats and an opponent's face.

Commander is where Chittering Witch earns her keep — the three-opponent baseline means she enters with three Rats in a full pod, and her drain ability scales with the wide boards those formats produce. In Modern and Pioneer she's too slow at five mana for creature-based aggro and lacks the redundancy payoff that makes her good in multiplayer, so she rarely sees competitive play there. Legacy has the raw power density to make five-mana do-nothing-until-next-turn creatures obsolete. Chittering Witch is essentially a Commander card wearing a legal-in-other-formats badge.

Current price
$0.31 bulk tier
At $0.31, Chittering Witch is deep bulk — easy to pick up in any common-bin or sub-$1 order. That price is stable; she sees enough Commander play in Rat and sacrifice builds to have a floor, but not enough cross-format demand to push her higher.
