Charging Rhino hits hard for its size — a 4/4 that can't be blocked by multiple creatures at once — but five mana for a vanilla-adjacent creature with no enters-the-battlefield effect and no evasion beyond its blocking restriction is a steep ask in any powered environment. There are simply better five-drops at every table.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Charging Rhino is legal everywhere except Standard, but that breadth doesn't translate to relevance. In Commander, a 4/4 for five with a narrow pseudo-evasion ability won't move the needle — the format is too threat-dense for a creature that contributes nothing beyond combat. Pauper is the one format where Charging Rhino is at least contextually plausible, since the card pool is constrained enough that a large body with any kind of blocking restriction has marginal value, though it still sits outside competitive lists. In Legacy, Modern, and Pioneer, it's a novelty at best.

$0.04 bulk tier
At $0.04, Charging Rhino is deep bulk — you're paying for cardboard, not card. Don't expect that floor to move; bulk commons with no competitive applications don't appreciate.
