Chainflail Centipede is a 2/2 for 2G with deathtouch and a triggered ability that pumps it whenever a creature an opponent controls dies — solid enough on paper, but three mana for a 2/2 that needs board activity to grow is a low ceiling. Dedicated deathtouch tribal or aristocrats shells can squeeze value out of it, but outside those contexts it's an easy cut.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|

| modern | legal |
| pioneer | legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Chainflail Centipede is legal in Commander, Legacy, Modern, Pioneer, Vintage, Pauper, and Oathbreaker, but sees meaningful play in almost none of them. In Commander it fits narrowest in Hapatra, Vizier of Poisons or similar -1/-1 counter and death-trigger shells where the growth trigger fires repeatedly, but even there it competes with better deathtouch bodies. In Pauper it's technically playable but a 2/2 for three with a conditional upside rarely makes the cut when cheaper threats exist. Everywhere else, Chainflail Centipede is too slow and too dependent on opponents losing creatures to justify the slot.

Price Context
Current price
$0.13 bulk tier
At $0.13, Chainflail Centipede is deep bulk — the kind of card that ends up in trade binders and draft chaff piles. Don't expect that price to move; demand isn't there to push it.
