Cephalid Scout trades a land from your hand for a card draw trigger whenever a creature enters the battlefield under your control — a repeatable but mana-hungry engine that asks more than it gives in most shells. Outside of dedicated landfall or high-creature-density synergy decks, the activation cost makes it a bulk rare that stays bulk.
Format Analysis
Where it lives, where it can’t
| Format | Verdict |
|---|---|
| commander | legal |
| legacy | legal |
| modern | not legal |
| pioneer | not legal |
| standard | not legal |
| vintage | legal |
| pauper | legal |
| oathbreaker | legal |
Cephalid Scout is legal in Commander, Legacy, Vintage, Pauper, and Oathbreaker, but the honest answer is that it sees meaningful play in almost none of them. In Commander, creature-token generators or landfall payoffs might find a niche use for it, but two mana per activation competes badly against free or cheaper draw engines. In Pauper, where resources are tight and every activation matters, the cost-to-output ratio is punishing enough that it rarely makes lists. Legacy and Vintage have access to far more efficient card advantage, and Cephalid Scout simply doesn't clear that bar.

Price Context
Current price
$0.09 bulk tier
At $0.09, Cephalid Scout is deep bulk — the kind of card that fills a dollar box and rarely leaves it. There is no meaningful demand pressure to push this higher, so treat it as a freely swappable inclusion if a specific synergy calls for it.
